Solid, heavy grinders that work well and feel good in the hand. Expensive.

When our beloved old bottle grinders did that thing where material on the outside degrades and becomes irretrievably "tacky," I went looking for something a bit more solid that still wouldn't get salt and pepper all over the table when you set them down. These HexClad grinders have done the trick

    LIKES
Build quality — These look terrific and feel great in the hand, like nicely made tools. They're solid aluminum, heavy, and exude a "built to last" quality (we shall see). The hexagonal shape gives a good grip. They don't pick up or show stains, and if they did they can be easily wiped down. These wont't be oxidizing into a tacky goo in the foreseeable future. They look handsome on the table.

Grinding – They're adjustable, although I haven't had cause to fiddle with that feature much, because out of the box both salt and pepper make a nice medium coarse grind. And as has become the norm, they put out a generous amount of whichever spice with just a twist or two. You won't be getting tired holding these over the food to get enough spice out of these, because a flick of the wrist is all it takes.

    NEUTRAL
The stand or "caddy" the grinders fit on does solve the issue of getting spices all over the table when you set them down. The grinders fit into it snugly — so snugly that to use the grinders, you need to pick up the caddy, put the whole thing down firmly the table, and press down on the rod in the middle of the stand to pull either of them free.

It's all a bit clunkier than a well-fitting magnetic cap for the bottom of a grinder, which we have on a great pepper grinder we have in the kitchen, but those can be hard to engineer well (and magnets are a no-go on a salt grinder). It's fine and it works, but if you don't want a mess on the table, you'll passing the whole caddy, not the individual grinders around.

    NO SO LIKES
No deal-breakers here. I understand these are a little larger than a past version of HexClad's table grinders, and I'm glad because their capacity is just adequate. The caddy works well enough as noted. They're overpriced, and my overall impression of HexClad remains that the brand's pricing reflects about 60/40 marketing hype-to-quality. It's medium-good stuff priced like ultra-premium stuff. That's fine as long as you know what you're getting into.

Five stars. I'd choose these again.

    Great set

I had no need for their larger set, but this would work well in my kitchen.

I'd gone through a bevy of various battery powered auto grinders, including the rather pricey set these replaced, that would grind when you simply turned it over, for ease of use. But I didn't leave them turned on, since I didn't want to waste the battery since they usually sit there unused anyway. So it was always MORE work for me to use them anyway.

These let me get rid of the power cord to the wall and the charging base.

Easy to fill, I absolutely LOVE how the top comes right off after pressing the button on top and pulling. SO simple and quick. There's a lot of latitude for the amount of grind you want.

They turn well, and it's easy to control how much you're applying.

The base is simply amazing as well – these things don't just sit on it, the base INSERTS itself into the opening on the bottom, so they have no wiggle room, no rattle. You can lift up the caddy by picking up one of the mills, it's that secure. Sure, you need two hands to pull it off, but for me that's better than having them get knocked off all the time like my previous set did.

Solid feel as well. These things are going to last. Worth the price for the upgrade.

Heavier and more consistent grind than other salt and pepper mills I have.

When I found this HexClad salt and pepper grinder set, I have to admit that I thought the price was excessive. Since I am familiar with HexClad products, I am familiar with the quality. So, I decided to try this set. I do have a few other set to compare this set to, manual, battery operated, and lighted. Personally, I prefer the manual grinding sets since the battery operated ones require as many as 6 batteries for each grinder. Although the batteries do last for a while, it can be expensive when the batteries need to be replaced. So, what are the pros and cons of this salt and pepper grinder set?

    PROS:
    1) This set screams quality as it is heavy weight and looks to be very durable.
    2) This set looks very professional and with the stand has a high-end appearance.
    3) Although the size is not as large as other sets I have, it is not obtrusive and looks nice on the table.
    4) Whatever grind size is set, the grind is consistent. With other sets I have, the grind provides small and larger pieces no matter what grind size is chosen.
    5) Each turn of the grinders provides a good, consistent amount of salt or pepper as compared to other grinders I have. Some of the other sets I have take a while to get any amount of seasoning out of them.
    6) Once the desired grind size is chosen, the grind is consistent.
    7) Removing the top to refill is much easier than other grinders I have. Just push a button on the top, and the top comes off for refill. Others I have the top screws on, and, most often, it gets stuck and is hard to open even though I try not to screw it on too tight.
    8) After the top is removed, the opening for refill is larger enough to make refill easy.
    9) The grind on both grinders is adjustable with a dial on the bottom of each grinder. The dial is easy to turn for adjustments.

    Cons:
Really, the only con I can think of is the adjustability of the grind. These grinders are suppose to have 10 adjustable setting, but 10 settings are not discernible on the dial. The dial turn past both the fine and coarse settings. There are some clicks when making adjustments, but there are not 10 of them. Adjustment of the grind has to be played with to get the grind you want.

Overall, I really like this set and feel it is worth the price paid for the consistency of the grind once it is set. I also very much like the look and weight of this set. Hopefully, the "high efficiency burr" lasts longer than a ceramic burr. As compared to the many less expensive sets that I have, I do believe this set is well worth the price and would recommend it.

I've had the HexMill tabletop set for a few weeks now. Did it make me into a fabulous chef that now has thousands of online followers? No, of course not. But it is such a pleasure to grind out a precise amount salt onto a hard boiled egg, for instance. Or quickly adjust a coarse pepper grind for marinating meat vs. a fine dusting on salads. HexMill really nailed the ergonomic, in-hand usability of these small (but not too small) tabletop grinders. The grinders are easy to grip, and easy to achieve precise results with less than a full rotation. The handy little double stand keeps excess grinds off the counter and table. To my way of thinking and cooking for the past 30 years, these grinders are the equivalent of a LeCreuset Dutch oven: not inexpensive, but utterly reliable and unparalleled in achieving what they are designed to do. I recommend.

You would think? This would be a really good product coming from Mr. Chef Gordon Ramsay however, this salt and pepper shaker is absolutely not all that great pretty disappointed first of all? In order to remove the pepper shaker you have to hold down the whole entire assembly because it’s magnetic. It’s very frustrating and secondly, the screw off tops keep coming loose when grinding the salt and pepper shakers it’s very annoying definitely not worth the money. I can’t really see Gordon Ramsay holding down the whole set just to have one shaker removed and then replacing it. It doesn’t make any sense to me.

Solid, great grind, stainless on the pepper and ceramic in the salt. I'm a month or so in and loving them.

Good solid "clicks" as you select the coarseness levels. Very happy as an amateur but enthusiastic home cook.

The Gatling Guns of Salt and Pepper dispensers.

I was in the market for a decent salt and pepper mill, after years of faffing with cheap sub-par mills and supermarket disposables. I wanted something that would dispense salt and pepper with ease, and at a rate that was easy to control, without clogging, and these from Hexclad deliver in spades.
The moment you open the bespoke packaging, you know you're dealing with items that benefit from precision engineering. Once filled with coarse salt and pepper corns respectively, they deliver a dispense rate that can only be described as epic.
For the first couple of weeks use, I did find that the tops of the grinders were a little on the stiff side, but once they're bedded in, grinding salt and pepper is actually quite the enjoyable experience. You really do feel like you're attending the prosecco party with a bottle of Dom Pérignon P3 Plénitude.
Over the coarse of the last 12 months, my hexclad grinders have liberally seasoned my ingredients with the care-free abandon of a road gritter in winter.

Be mindful though, that it will chew through peppercorns like a power station, if you're used to grinding with a disposable, plastic grinder. A few cranks of the top hex nut is all that you need. If you're too enthusiastic, you'll empty the pepper corns quicker than the fuel tank of a bugatti Veyron at full chat on the test ring at Nardo. I love them!
